Governor Evers Media Briefing

Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers held a media briefing today on the state’s response for the COVID-19 pandemic. Joining the governor were Secretary-designee Andrea Palm, Interim Division of Public Health Administrator and State Health Officer Stephanie Smiley, and Ryan Nilsestuen, Chief Legal Counsel in the Office of the Governor.

In his opening remarks, Governor Evers reiterated the contents of his letter to Republican Legislative leaders yesterday in requesting a meeting. Governor Evers also encouraged Wisconsinites to contact their lawmakers to get their position on the health emergency order, the mask mandate and if they are going to take legislative action on the emergency order to do it before the November 3rd election.

Secretary Palm, in releasing new highs in one-day positive test results and deaths,  reinforced the need for people to stay home, maintain social distancing, cancel plans to gather. Sec. Palm also updated that the alternate care facility at State Fair Park will be open to take up to 50 patients tomorrow.

Governor Evers said that DHS will not submit an emergency rule to the Joint Committee for Review of Administrative Rules, because they have an emergency order in place.
