Since 1992, Capitol Consultants has helped organizations in and out of Wisconsin manage their relationships and position within the public sphere. Our team has over 70 years of combined experience working at every level of government in Wisconsin, from municipal to state to federal. Members of our team have also worked in the state legislature, the governor’s office, and in the private sector. As a result, we combine varying perspectives and areas of expertise to create innovative solutions to the complex challenges our clients face. Bill McCoshen is the Managing Partner of Capitol Consultants, a firm specializing in government relations, public affairs and issues-based grassroots advocacy.
Bill McCoshen is the Managing Partner of Capitol Consultants, a firm specializing in government relations, public affairs and issues-based grassroots advocacy.
Before joining Capitol Consultants, Bill was appointed by Governor Tommy Thompson to be the Secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Commerce where he was responsible for assisting citizens, businesses, and communities with financing and economic development programs. At the age of 29, the bill was the youngest cabinet secretary ever appointed in Wisconsin history. Prior to being appointed the Secretary of Commerce, Bill was the manager of Governor Thompson’s historic third-term campaign victory. The landslide 68% victory was the second-highest margin in state history and the largest margin since 1922. The ’94 reelection campaign captured 71 of 72 counties, and Governor Thompson received more votes than any gubernatorial candidate in history. Before taking a leave from state government to serve as Governor Thompson’s campaign manager, Bill served as Governor Thompson’s chief of staff.
Bill is also Executive Director of Competitive Wisconsin, a statewide non-partisan consortium of agriculture, business, education and labor leaders that focuses exclusively on developing and advocating statewide policies to retain and grow existing businesses and create new businesses.

Tony Langenohl is Senior Vice President of Capitol Consultants, a firm specializing in government relations, public affairs and issues-based grassroots advocacy. In addition to his work at Capitol Consultants, Inc., Tony is the managing partner and a co-founder of Capitol Opinion, a Wisconsin based research firm that combines cutting edge research techniques with the political savvy and experience of some of Wisconsin’s top political minds.
Before joining Capitol Consultants, Tony was Special Assistant to Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson. As Special Assistant to Governor Thompson, Tony was the Governor’s traveling press and policy aide. In addition, Tony held several other positions in and out of the Thompson Administration, including Deputy Communications Director of Governor Thompson’s historic fourth term election in 1998, an education policy aide to the Governor and Special Assistant to the Secretary of the Department of Administration. In addition, Tony has worked on and advised numerous campaigns, including; gubernatorial, congressional, legislative, issue-based and judicial campaigns in and out of Wisconsin.
Tony is also Deputy Executive Director of Competitive Wisconsin, a statewide non-partisan consortium of agriculture, business, education and labor leaders that focuses exclusively on developing and advocating statewide policies to retain and grow existing businesses and create new businesses.
Tony is a co-founder and member of the Board of TGT Charity, Inc., a not-for-profit charity formed in honor of Governor and Secretary Tommy G. Thompson, the longest-serving Governor of the State of Wisconsin and the 19th Secretary of the United States Department of Health and Human Services. The mission of the TGT Charity is to benefit individuals who choose to study and work in the healthcare field, by sustaining programs and education endeavors. Tony also served on the Board of Directors of the Madison Children’s Museum, one of the top-rated children’s museums in the nation.
